DERMAPLANING

What is dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a procedure that exfoliates your skin and gets rid of dirt and vellus hair, better known as “peach fuzz.”

The basic concept of dermaplaning is the same as shaving, but in place of a razor, it uses a scalpel-type blade to remove skin cells, hair, and other debris that may be present on the surface of the skin.

The continuous exposure of the top layer of skin to UV rays, environmental toxins, and irritants means that it may begin to appear dull. Dermaplaning removes the top layer of skin to reveal newer skin cells that may make a person’s skin appear smoother and glowing.

What to expect during the session;

  • Following the consultation, if we determine you are a good candidate, we will begin by asking a few pertinent questions about your recent health history to ensure there are no contraindications for treatment.   We will discuss your treatment and advise if there are any areas of the face we are not able to treat.

  • The treatment area will be double cleansed and prepared for treatment, a sterile surgical scalpel is used to shave the surface of the skin to remove excess dead skin and peach fuzz hairs. The tool is held at a 45 degree angle and is brushed along the skin to remove the hair and skin cells. The next steps then depend on if you choose as Express or Bespoke treatment;

    • Express - Double cleanse, dermaplane, moisturise, SPF, complimentary face mask 45 mins

    • Bespoke - Double cleanse, dermaplane, tone, skin booster/serum, ice globes, moisturise, SPF & complimentary face mask 60 mins

Aftercare;

  • The skin may appear red and feel a bit tender for a few days.

  • Avoid UV light exposure for a few days and take precautions, such as wearing sunscreen with a high sun protection factor (SPF), when out in the sun.

  • Treatments should be carried out every four weeks.  It is good to have the skin complete its normal rejuvenation cycle, which is thirty days, before going back and having the treatment done.  The procedure generally will remove between two to three weeks of dead skin from the facial area.
